Cardiff Bay
Cardiff Bay is both an area of Cardiff and a freshwater lake. It was once a tidal bay where the Taff and Ely rivers reach the sea; the Cardiff Bay Barrage, completed in 1999, dammed the two rivers and turned the water into a lake of about 500 acres, cut off from the Severn Estuary.
The lake was at the heart of the area's redevelopment in the 1990s.
